Top ten of the decade, new scholarship, and fresh Pie
The Friends of Lulu announced their Lulu Award winners over the weekend (full disclosure: I was one of the judges who nominated the finalists) and there was a considerable webcomics presence; Tom Spurgeon lists all the nominees and winners with plenty of links at The Comics Reporter.
It may be only November 2009, but El Santo is ready with his list of the top ten webcomics of the decade at The Webcomic Overlook.
The 300th issue of The Comics Journal went online yesterday and then went offline again pretty quickly, but Xaviar Xerxes acted quickly enough to excerpt and comment on an interview with Ted Rall in which he critiques the free-webcomics model.
Alex Dueben talks to Jamaica Dyer about Weird Fishes, which started as a webcomic and is now in print as well.
Tim O’Shea interviews Shannon Wheeler, creator of Too Much Coffee Man, at Robot 6.
This is pretty cool: Ryan Sohmer and Lar deSouza, the creators of Least I Could Do, are establishing the Rayne Summers Webcomic Scholarship, which will provide full tuition for a student focusing on webcomics at The Center for Cartoon Studies in White River Junction, Vermont. Eventually they plan to have five such scholarships, all at CCS.
Meredith Gran has just posted a new one-shot story at Octopus Pie.
Congratulations to Greg Dean on 10 years of Real Life. That’s an impressive run for any comic, web or paper. (Via Fleen.)
Brad Guigar takes a look at three ways to improve your web design at Webcomics.com, and then he puts those principles into practice with a critique of Tony Piro’s Calamities of Nature.

I guess it was kind of early to put a list together, but other sites were putting Best of the Decade lists already (not webcomics, but other media) and I wanted to join in on the fun. Also, it’s not like someone would put something out in December that would make me change my mind.
Plus, I think I was the first to put out a Top Ten of the Decade webcomics list! Yay me?
