Left to our own devices: Love and war

The interestingly named Underwater Samurai Studios has announced their first iPhone comic, Soldiers Zero. Here’s the blurb:

Written by Rob McClellan with art by Martin Montiel (The Darkness, Legendary), Chris Summers (G.I. Joe) and Charles Pritchett (Noble Causes), the first issue of Soldiers Zero follows the exploits of four prototype super-soldiers deployed to Afghanistan in August 2007, and the tragedy that befalls them.

It’s 99 cents for 185 screens, which is not bad on a per-page basis.

Simon Jones doesn’t have a Kindle, but he takes the Kindle version of Harlequin manga for a test drive on his PC at the Icarus Blog.

If you haven’t read El Santo’s takedown of The Prisoner, the motion comic that accompanies AMC’s remake of the classic TV show, then go do so now. Not only is it a lot of fun, but he brings up an interesting point: He can’t read it on his iPod Touch. Could this have anything to do with the fact that the show is sponsored by Palm Pre? A reader adds some insight in the comments section, but I like Larry’s conspiracy theory better.

For our British readers, Sony is kicking off their digital comics store for the PSP with a PSP 3000 giveaway.

Meanwhile, Kotaku has the pricing information for manga on the PSP in Japan, and ComicVine notes that Marvel, Archie, and Image Comics have signed on for the American launch of the Playstation Store’s comics service. (Both links via the Icarus blog.)

Not specific to comics, but interesting nonetheless: Mike Shatzkin has some thoughts on how things will change when the ebook comes first. (Via Oz and Ends.)
