Left to our own devices: Archie’s here
Archie Comics will release the upcoming Betty & Veronica Christmas Spectacular as a digital-only comic, and the only platform they are releasing it for is the iPhone/iPod Touch. I actually heard about this last June when I interviewed associate editor Steve Oswald for Robot 6. Back then, I observed that the Betty & Veronica comics seemed to be weak sellers, and the press release linked above acknowledges that the Christmas Spectacular was slated to be cancelled but was rescued by a grass-roots movement on Facebook. However, it seems to me that if you drew a Venn diagram of iPhone users and Betty & Veronica readers, the intersection would be pretty small, so I’m not sure who they think this will be reaching. Johanna Draper Carlson questions the logic a bit at Comics Worth Reading.
