Left to our own devices: PSP, PDFs, and beyond!
The big news of last week was the launch of the digital comics store for the Sony PSP. ICv2 has the scoop, with a quick rundown of publishers and price points and this nugget:
The PSP immediately becomes the second-leading venue for mobile comics after the iPhone, based on number of offerings.
The Disney Comics Worldwide blog has a review of the Disney comics, which seem to be imported Italian titles that are also being published in print editions by Boom! Studios, although DCW thinks that Sony’s release schedule is more aggressive. Archie IDW, Marvel, and others are also on board. Watch the demo video on the PlayStation Digital Comics home page to see the Auto Flow, with which “your eyes are guided across each page just as the artists intended.” Maybe, but it will take a bit of getting used to.
At the Icarus blog (possibly NSFW), manga publisher Simon Jones reprints in full the e-mail he got from Google, inviting him to participate in their Google Editions program, which looks like it will be launching soon. Simon also notes that Borders is making moves towards e-books.
Also, Simon figures out how to make PDFs work on the nook.
Alex DeCampi talks about her new, multi-platform comic Valentine at Comic Book Resources. A supernatural tale set during the Napoleonic Wars, Valentine will be available on iPhone, Android, Kindle, and other handhelds.
Down the Tubes notes some recent launches: Crude Behavior, a graphic novel for the Kindle, from Robot Comics, and Super Kaiju Hero Force, for the iPhone, from Crispy Comics.
