ComiXology app is now free

Here’s some good news for you recession-weary iPhone/iPod Touch users: Apple has changed its policy and is allowing in-app purchases in free apps. (Wired has a good explanation of this.) This makes it easier for developers to offer free apps with a premium level; the example Wired gave was a game that starts out for free and charges for the upper levels.

The creators of the comiXology comics reader promptly dropped their price to free. They already had a free app, but you could only use it to read their free comics. Now you can get the app for free and use it to buy and read their entire catalog, which at this point is pretty big.

ComiXology also announced yesterday that former DC President Jenette Kahn is joining their board, along with Milton Greipp, the publisher of ICv2.

    Excellent news!

I’ve been using the free Comixology app for maybe a month and have been enjoying most of the free comics they offered.

FYI, it’s a pleasure to add this blog to the Webcomics Blog List, a useful reference.
