Left to our own devices: Crumb’s in my pocket
Alex DeCampi, creator of Smoke and Kat and Mouse, has a pretty comprehensive column at Bleeding Cool that covers almost every digital comics platform and reader you can think of. (Via the ComicSpace blog.)
Genus Apps will be releasing classic Robert Crumb material for the iPhone, and Will Eisner’s Contract With God is coming soon as well.
Astro Boy is coming to the iPhone.
And Dark Horse has announced that Hellboy and The Umbrella Academy are available on the iPhone, apparently as individual apps that can be bought singly or in bundles.
Meanwhile, Robot Comics released an updated version of their Droid Comic Viewer for the Android operating system this week.
Here’s an interesting article that isn’t specifically about webcomics but does look to the future a bit; it discusses whether a digital magazine should have hyperlinks or not, which speaks to larger questions about the nature of different types of media. Follow it up with this very linky magazine article about what McSweeney’s could teach other publishers about in-app purchasing (an integral part of the comiXology app).
